Who We Are

The Alliance for Inclusive Literacy is a collective of educators, researchers, charities, and organisations united by one purpose — to ensure every learner has access to meaningful, progressive literacy education.

We believe that reading and writing are fundamental rights, not privileges. Yet too many pupils remain excluded from opportunities to develop literacy in ways that recognise their individual strengths, communication methods, and access needs.

Our alliance brings together expertise from across the UK to challenge these inequalities and drive change — so that literacy is truly accessible for all learners, in all settings.

Our Purpose

We exist to raise expectations, transform practice, and lead change towards a more inclusive literacy landscape.

Together, we aim to:

  • Influence policy and guidance to ensure literacy is prioritised for all learners.

  • Amplify evidence-informed inclusive literacy practice across the UK.

  • Connect professionals and organisations to share tools, frameworks, and research.

  • Champion training and resources that empower educators to deliver high-quality inclusive literacy instruction.

Connect With Us.

Whether you represent an organisation, or work as an educator, therapist, or researcher — if you share our belief that literacy is for everyone and have ideas, insights, or experiences to contribute — we invite you to connect with us and stay up to date with our work.

Together, we can strengthen the collective voice for inclusive literacy and build a system where every learner can access, engage with, and enjoy the written word.
